Norbert says:
This is one of the most massive and closed St. Juliens until 1999, after which it seems much more elegant to me. The 1996 is a stylish, surprisingly civilized wine, medium-bodied but lacking the brawn and punch one would expect from this terroir and vintage. It still has an excellent density, as well as an aroma of roasted herbs, liquorice and black currant mixed with incense-like smells. It is medium to full bodied, clean, rich and open, especially for a 1996. Estimated maturity now until 2032.
