For many, Norbert Schu is the sommelier and top chef par excellence, as he is considered one of the most outstanding wine connoisseurs in Europe. The son of a winegrower is celebrated for his high French cuisine, which was worth 18 Gault Millau points. The restaurant "Die Insel" on the Maschsee in Hanover, which Schu took over with his partner Heike in 1994, was awakened from its slumber by the couple's passion and perfectionism and has been managed very successfully for more than 25 years.
Schu cooked for many prominent guests, including the singer Phil Collins and the Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel. When she visited her favorite bar, she greeted Schu with the legendary words "My adoration! I'll take care of your comfort!” . In mid-2019 , the BILD newspaper ran the headline with a quote from Schu: "I'm closing up for my Heike..." and the HAZ clarified with " Norbert Schu is leaving his fine restaurant Die Insel ".
Since then, Schu has dedicated himself even more to his private life, to cooking at home in his Molteni kitchen and, of course, to his unbroken passion for high-quality wine. What began years ago with a collection of today's greatest Burgundies has resulted in a collection of international high-class wines that are highly regarded by national and international connoisseurs.
